And we’re off; Disneyland Paris is celebrating its 25th anniversary with lots of new features that we will cover in an upcoming Revo-Rama. You’ve also heard that The Walt Disney Company is preparing to take full control over Euro Disney SCA. As we will see in the minutes of the latest AGM, this promises a vast investment plan which will provide the destination with a fantastic boost, for once and for all correcting some problems which have existed since its creation. It will also help to counter the rise in importance of several parks in France (Parc Astérix, Futuroscope) and in Europe (Europapark, Efteling),, but also the Paramount park (3.5 billion pounds in investment for 50 attractions!) due to be built in 2022.
A large investment in Walt Disney Studios park “A World of Heroes”
During this AGM we chatted with several speakers close to top management who confirmed this massive revival project. “Off the record” numerous projects are being discussed and some are ready to be announced officially (after the 25th anniversary so as not to interfere with the celebrations): Toy Story Mania to complete Toy Story Playland, a Marvel season similar to that of Star Wars which will begin with a new show replacing CinéMagique, followed by a makeover of the Tower of Terror which will become a Guardian of the Galaxy, as is the case in the US… these are confirmed projects. There is also talk of a makeover of Rock’n Roller Coaster in Iron Man style and Avengers car chases to revamp the Moteurs… Action! Stunt Show Spectacular. Disneyland Paris could boast of having the one and only Marvel Land by 2022 (30th anniversary, 20th of the second park). It could also add a special version of the Soarin’ ride, but this has not yet been confirmed. But that’s not all, the big surprise comes from an agreement with BBC Worldwide for the replacement of “Armageddon: les Effets Spéciaux” by an attraction such as “Doctor Who Experience”. Soon you will be able to meet with the Doctor, the Daleks, Cybermen and other Weeping Angels in Paris! The popular series Sherlock was also mentioned. This would attract a certain type of British clientele to Marne-la-Vallée. Of course, to achieve this, a whole section of the WDS would have to be closed for a few months.

Whereas the Walt Disney Studios park, which will be renamed “Walt Disney Studios, a World of Heroes” (the name has not been confirmed) will focus all its attention on the new hotel (with Marvel, Pixar and Start Wars bedrooms), these new attractions and shows, most probably accompanied by the refurbishment of this whole area of the park devoted to Marvel (which really needs it, the Pixar zone is in much better condition), the Disneyland Park will also see some new arrivals in keeping with its original feeling of 1992. We’ve starting to hear again about The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast attractions for Fantasyland, Splash Mountain and Grizzly River Run for Frontierland, Jungle Cruise and Indiana Jones Adventure in Adventureland, an extension to Star Wars Land in Discoveryland. These projects are a bit more vague (except for Star Wars which is a priority) but could come out of the ground once the “Walt Disney Studios, a World of Heroes” has found its feet.

Studies have resumed for the third park, the Lava Lagoon project of Disneyland Paris is reborn from its ashes!

Of course, you already know that the intention has always been to build a third park, this was part of the agreement signed with the French state. A lot of projects are being bandied around again, such as a Lava Lagoon water park. For sure, the climate would is unsuitable in the winter, but it would be very much appreciated in the spring and summer when it can sometimes be sweltering! It could be designed along the lines of the equivalents at Walt Disney World, with more covered zones and some of the innovations currently presented in the Villages Nature. One of the themes being studied is Vaiana / Moana. But this project is still being discussed internally, the priority being to catch up on the things that were on hold due to EuroDisney’s financial situation.

There’s no doubt that presenting something new each year, as can be seen in numerous other parks, is a wonderful strategy for encouraging guests to return and to attract new guests. This strategy which has just been validated by Bob Iger will no doubt have a positive effect and be welcomed by all 🙂
