Discovering the Thoiry ZooSafari animal park as a family<\/h2>\n

Saying that we discovered it as a family is not completely true as the girls had already visited the park a few times with their school, but this was the first time that we went together. With a lot of road works, the trip there on public transport was no bed of roses, but there is a bus that will drop you just in front of the Thoiry grounds.<\/p>\n

The animal park was created in the grounds 50 years ago, initially as a means of financing restoration work on the manor house. Today it is a pride and joy of the Yvelines county and the Ile-de-France region. Similarly to the Plan\u00e8te Sauvage which we visited a few years ago, it offers a safari in a bush wagon as well as other fun activities. However the park does not provide accommodation, unlike the Zoo de Beauval which we haven\u2019t visited yet. Of course, it\u2019s very different to Animal Kingdom, except for the bush tour.<\/p>\n

To name some of the activities, there was the Grand D\u00e9fi du Labyrinthe (The Great Maze Challenge) where you will cross paths with mythical animals and answer a quiz, the Slack line and the Safari Air Park where you can have fun while (more or less) flying over the wild animals.<\/p>\n

Off to meet over 750 animals of 46 different species<\/h2>\n

The best part is meeting the animals. You can see some of them as you walk around. We\u2019d advise you not to miss the feeding of the felines. Reserve your place to be sure to get the best view, either on the bridge or in one of the galleries.<\/p>\n

And you should put the safari at the top of your list. You can either do in your own vehicle or in the bush wagon with a full guided tour. You have to reserve in advance, but it\u2019s worth it.<\/p>\n

All in all we had a great day at Thoiry meeting numerous different animal species. It makes a change from theme parks and from traditional zoos in which you\u2019re often uneasy about the welfare of the animals. The makings of a really nice and full day if you\u2019re well organised. The only negative: the public transport system (but we were unlucky that weekend which didn\u2019t help) and the restaurant and shopping options which are still a bit basic. Without going as far as a comparison with the Animal Kingdom, I can think of a certain partnership with Kirikou at Plan\u00e8te Sauvage which could provide some inspiration.<\/p>\n
