Abracadabra! (Léopoldine and Aliénor in the Cinderella Suite with the sceptre of Pardoes the wizard)
Family trip to the Cinderella Suite of the Efteling Hotel!
Our third visit to Efteling, our favourite park, for Winter Efteling. This time, after having tested the Village Bosrijk and the Village Loonsche Land, we were off to the Efteling Hotel. The architecture of this hotel is quite peculiar, a bit like the park, and at night it even seems to float in the air.
The Cinderella Suite was fantastic. Not too big for a family of 4 with a sleeping area with two double beds and a lounge area with armchairs, a cauldron and a pumpkin! There are numerous little details, including the sound effects when you open the door, the clock strikes 12! We weren’t expecting that!
For breakfast, the dining room was decorated along a royal theme, and at the reception there was a charming reference to the Villa Volta, our favourite attraction. Just one sore point: it was difficult to access the lifts which were really crowded, you had to wait or squeeze in.

From the Seven-leagues pathway (from Tom Thumb’s seven league boots in the Fairytale Forest) to the park for Winter Efteling!
No, it’s not a mistake, we really are talking about the 7 leagues (a unit of measurement which is not used anymore) ;-). The pathway is covered in footprints to help you find your way to the park. We don’t arrive in the main entrance as you do from the villages, but at the “Reizenrijk” (Adventure) area of the Vogel Rok / Carnival Festival. As we were allowed in 30 minutes before the official opening, I managed to persuade the girls to try out the indoor and in the dark roller coaster Vogel Rok (manufactured by Vekoma). I’m glad I did because Aliénor loved it. It’s a family friendly attraction with no loop-the-loop or big drops, which could have done with more video projections during the ride to update it a bit. Just like Space Mountain, the sound is emitted from the vehicles. Next time I’m determined to get them on Python! ?
Winter Efteling is really nice. There are little touches of snow and ice all around (unless it’s actually snowing which is the case as I write this article, but not while we were in the park). It’s different to Christmas at Disney (we’ll test Christmas at Europapark soon), because this season is really celebrated properly here. The atmosphere is very festive, it’s different which is good because we like both versions of a park.
As well as Vogel Rok’s fabulous hat there are bonfires to warm you, music groups to create an atmosphere, dreamlike characters and the Ice Palace with its ice skating rink and activities.

Winter Efteling should also be seen at nightfall with the “Winter Illusion” on Villa Volta! (Video mapping show)
Even more so than during the summer period, it’s at night that Winter Efteling is at its most impressive. But you’ve got to be quick, because the park closes quite early, unless you do what we did and eat at one of the park restaurants which enables you to come out into an empty park when you’ve finished.
There are lights everywhere, without going overboard. The Wish Tree (in which Léopoldine made a wish to meet with the designers of Villa Volta or Symbolica) also has little coloured tinsel chains.
But the thing that you mustn’t miss is The Winter Illusion, the video mapping show on the Villa Volta. Very impressive, but too short, it’s repeated a few times during the evening. You could easily imagine the same thing on Symbolica for future seasons!

We didn’t do much shopping this time, but we did go to see (thanks to Youtube comments) the Pin Trading boutique “Loetiek” in the Anton Pieck town square. Unfortunately the Winter Efteling pin wasn’t available that day.
We had a great weekend at Efteling, and the Efteling Hotel is our favourite, although each of the holiday villages has its own special charm. It depends on what you’re looking for.
One thing’s for sure: the Cinderella Suite is perfect for a magical weekend! One day we hope to test: the Pardoes, Carrousel, Fata Morgana, Royal, Golden, Hansel and Gretel, Aquatic, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, Little Red Riding Hood, Fairytale Forest Circus, Coca Cola suites… we’ll be busy over the next 10 years ?
When will there be a Villa Volta suite? ?

Léopoldine’s wish would be to meet with the designers of Villa Volta and/or Symbolica! Because she would love to become an Imagineer!
So what do you think of the Efteling Hotel, the Cinderella Suite and Winter Efteling?
